Skip hire and waste recycling visually inappropriate

The use began in 2011 and the local planning authority alleged skip hire Hertford that there had been a failure to assess more appropriate sites outside the AONB, and because it involved waste it comprised major development under the terms of the Town and Country Planning (Development Management Procedure)(England) Order 2010. The council also raised concerns about its visual impact, involving outside storage of hardcore and skips on a flat site once used as a military airfield.

The inspector agreed that inadequate evidence had been provided to demonstrate that more appropriate sites were not available and that the waste was generated within the local area. She accepted that it could be defined as major development and the site had considerable potential to become visually unsightly. It would harm the AONB and required special justification which had not been provided.
